FAQS
+ What is a hand therapist?
Hand therapy is the advanced assessment and treatment of hand, wrist, and elbow injuries by physiotherapists or occupational therapists who have undergone extensive post-graduate training. First Hand Rehab has been providing quality hand therapy services in the Hawkes Bay for over 20 years. Our qualified therapists are members of the New Zealand Association of Hand Therapists (NZAHT) and are accredited for ACC referrals as well as referrals from your GP or local hospital.
+ Can I make an appointment without a referral?
Yes - you are welcome to book in without a referral.
+ Can I make an appointment even if I haven’t lodged a claim with ACC yet?
You will need to have lodged a claim with your GP prior to attending an appointment for hand therapy. Feel free to call and discuss if you have any questions.
+ What do I bring to my appointment?
Please bring in any referral information you have including ACC details (if applicable) and any letters or investigation (e.g. x-ray) results you have.
If you have had X Rays or imaging done at one of the private providers in Hawkes Bay we are able to access these online so there is no need to bring these in.
+ How long are the appointments?
Your first appointment will be approximately 45 minutes long. Follow up appointments are no longer than 30 minutes.
+ What happens during my appointment?
We will ask you to complete a registration form when you arrive. Please allow 5-10 minutes before your scheduled appointment time to complete this information. Your initial treatment will begin with a comprehensive assessment. We may require additional investigations (diagnostics) to be carried out to help us make an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. These may include x-rays, scans etc.
+ Do you treat children?
Yes - we offer treatment for people of all ages.
+ What if I need to cancel or miss my appointment?
If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please provide 24 hours notice. Late cancellations (less than 24hr notice) or non attendance may incur a fee. Clients arriving late, but within their appointment time allocation, may receive a shorter consultation in order to avoid inconveniencing other booked clients. Repeated non attendance will result in your referrer and funder being notified and further appointments withdrawn.
“I first start coming to First Hand Rehab in August 2019 after having broken my wrist. I was in a lot of pain and it was affecting my way of life. During my visits I have been seeing Daniella who I would not hesitate to recommend. She is highly professional, efficient and always kept me informed with my progress going forward. I cannot thank her enough for how she has managed to change my life in this time. I would also like to thank the rest of the team who are always friendly and helpful. It is a fantastic clinic and one that I would highly recommend.”
