First Hand Rehab works with local GPs, surgeons, physiotherapists, the District Health Board, ACC and many other health professionals. We accept referrals from all sources including, directly from you. If you are an ACC patient we can handle all the referral forms on your behalf - you don't need a referral from your GP - although many of our patients are actually referred by their GP. You usually always have a choice about where to receive your treatment. If you are unsure whether you qualify for free treatment or whether we offer the treatment you require, please just give us a call - we'd be delighted to discuss your options with you.
At your first appointment, we will ask you to complete a registration form when you arrive. Please allow 5-10 minutes before your scheduled appointment time to complete this information. Please bring in any referral information you have including ACC details (if applicable) and any letters or investigation (e.g. x-ray) results you have.
Your initial treatment will begin with a comprehensive assessment. We may require additional investigations (diagnostics) to be carried out to help us make an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. These may include x-rays, scans etc. The costs will generally be covered by ACC but if you are in any doubt at all, please just ask us.
Following the assessment your Hand Therapist will clarify and outline the diagnosis with you and discuss your treatment options. You are welcome to be accompanied by a support person. We want you to be as comfortable as possible during your care with us.
